A. Mạo từ là gì?
Mạo từ là những từ đứng trước danh từ, để người đọc biết được đó là danh từ được xác định hay chưa xác định.
Trong tiếng Anh, Mạo từ (article) được chia làm 2 loại: Mạo từ xác định (definite article) “The” và Mạo từ không xác định (Indefinite artcile) gồm “a, an”.
I. Mạo từ xác định là gì?
Mạo từ xác định the đứng trước danh từ xác định, tức là danh từ đó đã được nhắc đến trong câu hoặc được hai người hiểu ngầm theo ngữ cảnh giao tiếp.
1. Các trường hợp dùng “the”
The được dùng khi danh từ chỉ đối tượng được cả người nói lẫn người nghe biết rõ đối tượng nào đó: đối tượng đó là ai, cái gì.

II. Mạo từ không xác định là gì?
Mạo từ không xác định được đặt trước danh từ không xác định, tức là danh từ đó được nhắc đến lần đầu tiên trong ngữ cảnh.
Trong tiếng Anh, mạo từ không xác định gồm hai từ là a và an.
1. Các trường hợp dùng mạo từ không xác định

Hi John,
I arrived in the USA last Monday. We left x Rome, flew over the Alps and made a quick stop in xLondon. There we went shopping in x Harrods, visited the Tower and enjoyed a sunny afternoon in x Hyde Park. On the following day we left for x New York. The time on board wasn't boring as there were two films to watch on the monitor. The people on the plane were all x Italian. Before we landed at x JFK airport, we saw the Statue of Liberty, x Ellis Island andthe Empire State Building. The hotel I stayed in was on the corner of x 42nd Street and x 5th Avenue.
